- Filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy can delay foreclosure for several months while the court determines what property of yours will be taken to pay your creditors (nonexempt property) and what property you keep (exempt property)
- Filing for Chapter 13 bankruptcy can avoid foreclosure by allowing you time to pay off the arrearage, or missed payments, in addition to your regular monthly payments
